FAQ

Do I need an appointment?

We do accept walk-ins if we are able, however an appointment is encouraged.  In some cases, even if we are free we may require you to make a future appointment so we can take the proper time to design a tattoo just for you.

Can I bring you my ideas and have you draw them? What's the process?
If you need a custom tattoo drawn one of our artists will be happy to help you. You will need to come in and talk to an artist so he/she can see the area on which you want the work and can talk to you about your ideas. The artist may take a tracing or photo of the area and will take notes. If you have photos or reference material that you want included now is the time to bring those in.

After consulting with an artist you will be required to pay a $50 deposit. This fee is non-refundable, however if you decide to get the tattoo after it is drawn the $50 would come off the cost of your first session. If you choose not to get the tattoo, that is fine, however the fee will be applied for the artist's time to draw the design. (See Deposit requirements below for more information)

The artist will call you when the drawing is done so you can stop in and take a look at it. Remember this may take several days as our artists are busy and will be tattooing and drawing for other clients during this time as well.

If you do not know what you want for your tattoo we encourage you to think about it more before coming to see us. We have clients who trust the artist and will say "artist's choice, I don't care", however this is rare. We need to know at least the style and subject matter you are looking for before we can draw something for you.
If you are wanting a portrait or a photo-realistic tattoo based on a photo you have please bring the highest resolution copy of the photo you can. Preferably at least an 8x10.

Can I take a picture of the drawing/will you email it to me/can I keep it?
Any drawings or designs that our artists do are property of the artist. We generally will not email a drawing or allow you to take it with you until after we have done the tattoo. If you simply want an artist to draw something for you to keep you would need to negotiate a fee with that artist for the art work.  If we do not hear from you within 6 months of your drawing being completed we will assume you do not want to move forward with your tattoo and your deposit will be forfeited.

What is with the Deposit requirement?
We require a $50 deposit in order to schedule an appointment. This deposit will be taken off the fee for your first session. If you no show, or cancel/reschedule less than 24 hours prior to your appointment you WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT. Remember that artists only get paid for the work that they do so if you schedule an appointment and do not show or cancel last minute the artist loses money as they could have scheduled someone else during that time frame. If you reschedule more than 24 hours before your appointment time we will honor your deposit. (See information regarding custom drawing deposits above).  If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment we consider that a no-show.

Deposits can be paid in the shop, via credit card over the phone, or by going to our website, www.EvesInk.com, and scrolling to the bottom of the first page. There you will see a deposit link where you can pay via PayPal.

If you call more than 24 hours in advance and state you want to reschedule your appointment at a later date we will hold your deposit, however if we do not hear from you within 6 months we will assume you are not interested in following through with the tattoo and you will forfeit your deposit.

Do you take Walk-Ins or do I need an appointment?
We recommend you schedule an appointment, especially if you are interested in a Friday or Saturday, however Walk-ins are welcome when we have time. It's best to call ahead to check availability, especially on weekends as we tend to be pretty busy. If you are wanting a larger tattoo or wanting something that requires a custom drawing we strongly encourage an appointment.

How much will my tattoo be?
The shop minimum is $50, this is for a very small, simple tattoo. The shop's hourly rate is $100/hour. This pricing is the same whether you are wanting full color or black and grey.

We cannot price a tattoo over the phone, so you will need to either email us or come in and talk to an artist. Remember any estimates we give are just that....estimates. There are alot of factors that go into how long a tattoo will take.

Although we recommend you come in and talk to an artist if you are wanting an estimate, we will price a tattoo via email if the following information is provided:

1. A brief description of the tattoo you want, or attach photos if you have them. Also If there's lettering involved, describe the font (typewriter, script, etc.)
2. Approximate size - use inches or a standard unit of measurement. Remember "palm sized", "medium", " about the size of my foot", are all very vague descriptions.
3. Do you want it to be in color or black & gray?
4. Where is it going to be placed on your body?

A $5 fee is added to all tattoos to cover the cost of aftercare. (See Aftercare for more information) All services are taxable.

What is your touch up policy?
You will get one free touch up in the first 6 months after you get your tattoo, this is included in the initial cost as long as you followed our aftercare instructions. This does not apply to white ink tattoos, hand tattoos or tattoos lower on the foot as these areas are not guaranteed. We do not do touch ups on Saturdays.

Will you touch up/fix/redo tattoos that were originally done somewhere else?
Yes, we are willing to work on old tattoos.  Our normal hourly rate applies.

What types of payment to you accept?
We accept Cash, Visa or Mastercard or Discover. We do not take Checks or American Express.

Should I tip?
Tipping is optional but appreciated. Typically clients will tip if they are happy with the services. Remember the artist is only paid a percentage of your tattoo so if want to show your appreciation to him/her you are welcome to tip.

How do I schedule an appointment?
You may call the shop, 937-748-9444, email us, or private message us on Facebook. If you want a specific artist please say so at the time you schedule or else you will be scheduled with whoever is available. The $50 deposit is required at the time you schedule.

How should I prepare for getting a tattoo?
Bring your ID. Yes...even if you are a minor we require an ID for all services in our shop. (see minor requirements for more information specific to clients under 18)

If you have artwork for references bring that with you.

Dress appropriately for where you are getting the tattoo done. Remember there are other clients and staff in and out of the shop. We try very hard to maintain an modest work area, so wear clothing that gives the artist easy access to the area.

Eat something before you come and if it is a larger tattoo you may want to bring a snack with you. Also be hydrated.

Feel free to bring in a book, MP3 player with headphones, ipad, etc. to entertain yourself during the tattoo. Just remember you have to sit still so don't bring anything that requires alot of movement.

Be prepared to be here for a while. There is set up time for every tattoo so even a small tattoo takes time. Don't come in rushed and pressed for time.

Do you do cover-ups?
Yes, we do coverups. If you are interested in having a tattoo covered you will need to come in and talk to an artist first. Remember any coverup will have to be at least twice as big as the original tattoo in order to properly cover it. You will also have to be flexible on the design as many things are not suitable for coverups. If you have ideas or a subject you would like used be sure to communicate those with the artist but remember that the artist has final say as to whether something will work or not.
We will also recolor and/or rework old tattoos.

Can you cover black ink with color?
Yes, with some colors. Blues and Purples work well while white, pinks, yellows, etc. do not. The best cover ups are a subject with lots of layers where the artist can use shading to hide the old tattoo.

Do you do White ink tattoos?
Yes, but.....
This is a big "but". We will do them if that is what you really want, however we will discourage it. White pigment is not designed to be a stand-alone color. It will not heal well and tends to look like a scar rather than a tattoo. The white will also appear patchy. In the sun the pigment will turn a yellowish color as well. The pictures you see on Pinterest of white ink tattoos are taken immediately after the tattoo is done or are taken with filters to make them look brighter. These are not healed pictures and do not depict what your tattoo will truly look like.  Knowing all that, if you still want a white tattoo we will do it but we will not guarantee it and you will need to pay for any future touch ups.

Do you do finger tattoos?
Yes, but....
Another "but". We will do finger tattoos but they do not hold well, particularly on the side and underside of your finger, the wrinkly part of your knuckles, etc. Finger tattoos will fade or blur over time and will look spotty.  We reserve the right to refuse to do finger or hand tattoos on anyone who is not already heavily tattooed and we do not guarantee finger tattoos. You will have to pay for any future touchups that are required.

Does it Hurt?
Of course it does. Some locations hurt worse than others but all will be uncomfortable at the very least. People ask all the time "what does it feel like"? Usually the pain is minor, kind of like scratching at a sunburn, but there are areas that we discourage if it is your first tattoo. The feet, rib cage area, and inside of your upper arm, all tend to hurt worse than other areas.

Do you use numbing agents?
Currently we only use numbing agents on cosmetic tattoos.

Can I take pain meds or have a little drink before my tattoo?
Over the counter pain medications don't typically do much for the pain during the tattoo. However, if you want to take something beforehand that is fine. We recommend you do not take Aspirin or other blood thinners for at least 24 hours before your tattoo.

Sometimes clients have prescription pain medication. We recommend checking with the prescribing doctor before taking the medication. Remember that we cannot tattoo you if you are visibly intoxicated or high. Some medications will affect you in this way.

What do I use on my tattoo while it's healing?
We provide you with H2Ocean Aftercare for you tattoo and will review the aftercare instructions with you before you leave. In order to get your free touch up you must follow our aftercare instructions and use the aftercare we give you. We understand that other shops, artists, friends and family may tell you to use something else. While there are other good aftercare products out there, there are also alot of things that are very bad for your tattoo so listen to your artist!

After the tattoo is healed we recommend keeping it out of the sun/tanning beds in order to maintain the colors and line work. Sun will fade your tattoo and may cause the lines to blur. If you are going to be in the sun we recommend you use a good sunscreen.

Can I bring my kids or pet with me?
We are all animal lovers, but no pets are allowed. Service dogs are welcome but will have to stay outside of the tattoo booth in order to maintain a proper level of hygiene.

We strongly discourage young children or infants in the shop. Although we are constantly cleaning, it is not an environment that is safe for a child to be crawling around on the floor. Children under 12 are NOT ALLOWED IN THE TATTOO BOOTHS so another adult would need to be present who could supervise them during your tattoo. Well behaved kids 12 and older are welcome with a parent or guardian and will be allowed to sit quietly and watch the tattoo. If any child becomes disruptive they will be asked to leave.

Can I bring a friend?
You are welcome to bring a friend to your appointment. We discourage bringing large groups as it can get too crowded and distracting for the artist. Only one friend will be allowed in the tattoo booth with you, others will have to stand outside the booth to watch. Please be respectful of the other clients and artists in the shop. Loud, disruptive behavior can be a serious distraction and the artists need to be able to focus.

The friend that is in the booth with you may sit near you, chat, and generally provide support. We ask that they do not touch you, including holding your hand, as even little movements can affect the artist's work.

Do you do piercings?
Yes, we do all forms of piercings.
Standard piercings are $40 each or two for $50 if done on the same person at the same time.
Microdermal piercings are $50 for one or two for $60 if done on the same person at the same time.
Genital piercings are $80 apiece. We do not offer discounts on genital piercings.
All services are taxable.

Do you sell Gift Certificates?
Yes, you can purchase a gift certificate for any amount.

I have a coupon, can I use it?
Yes, if you have a valid coupon or discount you may use it however you may only use one coupon or discount per person per procedure.

I'm under 18, can I get a tattoo or piercing?
We will tattoo clients age 16 and older with parental permission. A parent must be present when you come to get the tattoo and must fill out the waiver form. We will need state issued ID for both you and your parent. If your last names are not the same we will need some verification that they are actually your parent. Older friends and siblings are not allowed to sign for permission unless they have legal custody of you and can document that.  We reserve the right to refuse to tattoo certain subject matter or certain places on your body if you are under 18.

We will pierce children under the age of 18, again with parental permission. We will need state issued ID for both you and your parent. If your last names are not the same we will need some verification that they are actually your parent. Older friends and siblings are not allowed to sign for permission unless they have legal custody of you and can document that.

We will not do facial piercings on anyone under the age of 14 and we will not do tongue, nipple or genital piercings on anyone under 18. We will pierce infants/young children's ears but will require the child's birth certificate.
